Interfaith Solidarity March in Support of the Muslim Community - Sunday, April 2, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Starting at Wilshire Boulevard Temple, 3663 Wilshire Blvd., LA and ending at the Islamic Center of Southern California (program and fabulous food), with stops at St. Basil Roman Catholic Church and Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Rev. Rebecca and 24 others from our congregation participated last year. Can we double that? Or more? In the past year, racism in our country has become more overt. Threats and hate crimes against Muslims, Jews, and other religious minorities have increased. Marching in solidarity with our interfaith neighbors is more important than ever. Please see instituteforreligioustolerance.org.

Pete Seeger Songfest

Jim Scott, who collaborated on many projects with the folk legend Pete Seeger, will perform a songfest on Saturday, August 9, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jim will lead a celebration of many songs by Pete and others, as
well as his own, for the causes Pete championed. With the death of Pete Seeger we've lost an icon, but not his
rich legacy of song to teach and inspire us.

This event will be held at the Unitarian Universalists of Santa Clarity Valley Chalice Center, 22916 Lyons Ave, Suite 2B, in Santa Clarita, www.uuofscv.org Suggested donation $15.00. Songfest info: music director Scott Roewe, scott.roewe@gmail.com or (310) 739-4132.

A prolific composer in his own right, Jim Scott was guitarist with the Paul Winter Consort. He compiled the “Earth and Spirit Songbook,” 110 songs of earth by many contemporary composers, including Pete Seeger.

General Assembly 2014 Theme Is “Love Reaches Out”

On June 25 to 29 a few thousand UUs of all ages will gather in Providence, RI, to worship, learn, celebrate, witness, connect, sing, and take care of denominational business. General Assembly (GA) is the annual meeting of our Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), and it’s really exciting.

Religious life in America is changing dramatically and rapidly. Fewer people are identifying with specific denominations and most mainline religions are losing members in droves. People now find many other outlets and places of engagement for their spiritual lives. Current studies of faith in America show that there is a movement toward a liberal, fluid kind of faith that doesn’t fit with traditional denominational identity and structure.

We already know that for every adult member of Unitarian Universalist congregations, there are at least three non-members who also consider themselves to be Unitarian Universalist. A core purpose of our faith is to help people grow in spirit and in service. We believe that our faith provides a path for each of us to unlock our transformational capacity to serve the world with love. We want to expand our faith not just to grow Unitarian Universalism, but also to better achieve this transformational purpose.

Therefore, the General Assembly Planning Committee, the UUA Board of Trustees, and the Administration want
the General Assembly in 2014 to help our association live into a future where our “Love Reaches Out” to share our faith both within and beyond our congregations’ walls.

GA 2014 information and registration are available now at: http://www.uua.org/ga/ Discount applications are due in March. Anyone may attend; our voting delegates are appointed by the UUCCSM Board.

UUCSC is proud to announce "An Evening with Joanne Bland"

Ms. Bland was the director for many years for the Voting Rights Museum in Selma Alabama. As she puts it, "I grew up in the Movement," and that's quite an understatement. She was on the Bridge in Selma for what is now known as Bloody Sunday. She had been arrested about a dozen times by the age of 13. Her stories come from the heart and are intended for the soul. When President Obama was on his first presidential campaign trail, he visited Ms. Bland and had a rare one on one moment with her. Her story is motivating and engaging.

When: Thu Feb 13
Time: 7 pm

There will be a Spaghetti Supper so PLEASE let us know if you plan on attending. At this time childcare is not planned, but we encourage children and youth to attend. If you require child care , please let us know and we will make all attempts to provide it.

Creating Family in CommUUnity - Regional Conference in January 2014

WE ARE GROWING!
Diverse, Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries (DRUUMM)* and Allies for Racial Equity (ARE)** present a full weekend Regional Conference January 17-19, 2014 at First Unitarian Universalist Church in San Diego, California. Creating Family in CommUUnity sets the stage for intergenerational exploration of ways we examine, redefine and name ourselves in relationship to others. With openness and welcoming we build beloved community, sometimes grappling with tough issues of oppression and privilege, yet always circling back to celebrating with love, joy and compassion. Together we seek reconciliation of the human family.

Friday night's joyous celebration is open to all. Hosted by Christopher D. Sims, Alex Mack and Leah Goodwin, the evening features an all ages line-up of local and imported poets, spoken word artists, musicians, and dramatists. Saturday features workshops and identity caucuses for DRUUMM and ARE members and friends. Children may participate in activities planned especially for them. Youth and Young Adults have an opportunity to caucus separately. Saturday night's family gathering dinner lets multicultural, multiracial families of many definitions and configurations relax and unwind together.

All are welcome.

Registration information and details will be available online beginning Sunday, November 24, 2013. Some financial aid scholarships are available.
