The God With No Stomach: A Hindu's Walk in the Brahmo Faith
Jayasri Majumdar Hart, Speaker

In the 1820s, reform-minded Hindus in the eastern province of Bengal looked to the West and found in the Unitarian Church a model of congregational worship and discourse that was unknown in Hindu worship at the time. The result was the emergence of not only the youngest of India's recognized religions, Brahmo Dharma, but also a sociopolitical climate that nurtured nationalism and the demand for independence from British rule. Our speaker was born and raised a Hindu in post-colonial Bengal. She now produces documentary films about little-known events that have shaped the lives of Americans. Her films include the 2007 documentary, "Sisters of Selma." http//home.earthlink.net/~jayasrihart/.
