Featured Articles - March, 2008 Church Name Change Proposal TabledCarol Agate formally introduced the proposal to drop "church" from our name last July; 25 letters to the editor were published in the newsletter through January 2008; and at the Town Hall meeting held on January 20 approximately 80 members were present and 32 spoke publicly. At that point 50 members were on record as being either for, against, or neutral, with the majority being against any name change. Also, about the same number expressed a strong attachment to the word "church" as voiced a strong desire to drop the word. |

At the same time we will be preparing to welcome an interim minister, who will guide us in the next two years until the congregation calls a new settled minister. This month, the Interim Task Force (ITF) will be evaluating and interviewing three or four candidates who have been referred to us by the UUA as interim ministers. |

I think all of us are pleased with the quality and vibrancy of our church community and its programs; we just somehow aren’t quite bringing ourselves to pay for it in full. Like any family, our church has a host of expenses. And over a number of recent years, those expenses have tended to increase by around 5% each year due to inflation, modest salary increases, and growth in the scope and depth of our programming. |

The service starts at 6:30 p.m., with rehearsal at 5:30 p.m. for readers and choir members. The original draft of this service was written in 1965 by the Rev. John F. Hayward to be used at a community meal at First Unitarian Church of Chicago. |
