Right Relations Communications Skills Workshop- CANCELLED

Imagine a scenario where you know someone is mad at you but you’re not sure why.  You’re uncomfortable with the tension between you and you want to initiate a conversation to try to clarify,  repair and move on.  What do you say?  How do you ready yourself?  How do we let go of any expectation that we can control another person’s thoughts or behavior and focus only on our own responsibility?  This is a common situation in life and one with which most of us are lacking the skills to manage the emotions of these circumstances and the communication strategies to remain open and curious.  But we all can LEARN!  Come to the next Communications Skills Workshop on Thursday, May 10 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Forbes Hall, to which all are invited.  We will explore skills that will help us live into our Covenant of Right Relations.  With our Covenant we are committing to caring, welcoming, communicating, apologizing, forgiving and striving to be as compassionate and kind as we are able.  When we fall short, we will try to acknowledge our mistakes.  This will most certainly be, at times, challenging and fulfilling and exciting and growthful.  Join us to practice helpful skills as we move closer to congregation-wide adoption of this aspirational covenant.

You may read the Covenant on our church website:  http://www.uusm.org/for-members/right-relations-task-force.  You may also pick up a copy of the Covenant at the Right Relations table after each service.

Please sign up for the Workshop at the Right Relations table on Sunday.  A member of our Right Relations Team will be glad to respond to your questions and chat with you about what’s happening in right relations these days.  See you there!

Heart & Soul is a monthly contemplative worship service series that occurs on the second Sunday of each month. It is a shorter, more intimate service, with singing and instrumental music, statements, and questions, silence, and sharing. Readings, poems, quotes, and music are drawn from a variety of sources, including the UU Soul Matters Sharing Circle, our hymnals, and popular/folk music.
