Today, 40% of our offering will go to The Boys and Girls Club’s LGBTQ Inclusion Initiative,
which provides a safe and welcoming environment for youth of all sexual orientations, gender
identities and gender expressions in all affiliated Youth Centers. By exploring gender and sexuality
issues, introducing inclusive language, and equipping Club staff with training and teaching tools,
BGCA strives to create a safe and supportive, progressive atmosphere not only for our LGBTQ youth,
but for all young people.

Severin Browne performs solo to packed house concerts, intimate listening rooms, and even an
occasional almost-rowdy bar with SoCal friends. He is a sought-after guest in many
singer-songwriter festivals and shows, and is regarded as one of the most accomplished performers
in the Los Angeles area. Severin’s easy manner in front of an audience makes it seem as if playing
his guitar and singing his songs is effortless and second-nature. His brilliant lyrics invite listeners
into the songs while his solid melodies carry the story from one note to the next.

Going Deeper

Recall how the Civil Rights Movement of the 50s and 60s was
strengthened by some of the most inspirational songs ever sung. What if
we broadened our definition of “singing?” Can all of our words be called
melodic, rhythmic, dynamic? And then, can our voices harmonize and
create counterpoint with the voices of our neighbors? The truth is that
EVERYONE has this power, even those who claim they can’t sing!
What if we learned to acknowledge and use the power of our own voices,
imbuing our statements and questions with the energy of singing?
How amazing it would be if we used this power in other disciplines and
environments so our unique songs may be sung boldly for the good of our
communities. Can we do a better job of recognizing and cultivating the
relevance and power of the voices of the marginalized and oppressed?
What if our communities harnessed the transformative power of
collective artistic expression, perhaps through singing?

Today, 40% of our offering will go to to The Equal Justice Initiative. Despite the motto of ‘and
justice for all…’ people of color face have very different experiences with the law enforcement,
judicial and economic systems in place in our country. As a people, we’ve done little to
acknowledge the impact of generations of slavery, lynching, and racial segregation. The Equal
Justice Initiative seeks ways to restore humanity in the face of prejudicial inequality. Please give
generously. Thank you!

Service Notes

Today, 40% of our offering will go to to St. John’s Well Child and Family Center. St. John’s Well Child and Family Center serves nearly 100,000 low-income patients in the Los Angeles area.  Because funding for low-income community health centers is constantly under attack, 27 million Americans are unsure of when, where or whether they will get health care. The Well Child and Family Center offers services and programs for low-income children, women, homeless, and transgender patients. Since the division between the rich and poor is larger than it's ever been, funding community health centers has become a political issue. But the public, and St. John’s, believes it is a human issue. Partnering with local agencies offering health services to those with greatest need is a moral issue. We invite you to make a difference. Please give what you can to help out those struggling in our larger community. Thank you!

Nations Office (UU-UNO) . The UU-UNO is involved in international advocacy for (UU) values.
From involvement in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to leading
interfaith conversations on developing the International Criminal Court, to overcoming UN apathy
about sexual orientation & gender identity crimes worldwide, the UU-UNO has a long history of
providing strong leadership in all aspects of human rights at a policy level throughout the world.
Some of the UU-UNO's work involves

     * Educational support and healthcare access to children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDs in Ghana
     * Advancing equal rights for all humans regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity
     * Fighting for women's sexual and reproductive health and rights
     * Bolstering the UU Climate Justice Initiative calling for global action

40% of today's offering goes to SURJ. SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice) is a national network of
groups and individuals organizing white people for racial justice. Through community organizing,
mobilizing and education, SURJ moves white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for
justice with passion and accountability.

SURJ works to connect people across the country while supporting and collaborating with local and
national racial justice organizing efforts. They provide space to build relationships, skills and
political analysis to act for change.

SURJ’s goal is to transform this country by building a powerful multiracial majority who can
challenge racism in all its forms. We invite you to be part of making peace and justice, person to
person. We will now receive this morning’s offering.
