I have traveled to over 30 countries and all fifty states. Some of my travels have been for business and some just for the pleasure of seeing and learning something new. I consider myself a traveler and not a tourist. As a traveler I feel connected with all those travelers of the past going even further back than Marco Polo.

Whenever I travel, regardless of the purpose, I try to speak with the local people as much as possible to gain an understanding of the place, its people, and their culture.

What I have learned is, no matter how remote and exotic the place we are all the same. Most everyone I have met in the world wants the same things beyond the basics of food, water, shelter and personal security --freedom to achieve one’s own potential and opportunities for their children.

When you travel, whether it is within California, the United States or throughout the world, make an effort make a connection even if is just with the taxi diver from the airport. It is through these connections that we can begin to understand others and let them know who we are.
