Here if You Need Me The Rev. Kate Braestrup's path to ministry came to her by calling her toward and through pain. When faced with one of the most painful moments of her life, she had to decide if she was going to turn around at the sight of her worst fears, or call forth what she needed to face them. Calling forth our courage requires both something within us and something around us. This is a service on how we call for and share courage between us. |

Heroes in Every Age The Hanukkah story tells of the heroic triumph of the Maccabees over hostile forces and celebrates their preservation of Hebrew tradition. Who is a hero today? What does it take to be one? |

High Expectations A Unitarian Universalist publication recently reported that high expectation congregations, which stress the responsibilities of membership, come closer to fulfilling their mission than congregations with low expectations. Neighborhood Church in Pasadena, for example, has these responsibilities of membership attendance at Sunday services, personal transformation, social justice work, and giving time and money to support the church. As we come to our Annual Meeting with high hopes for the coming year, it is time to heighten our expectations of each other as well. The Annual Meeting of the congregation takes place at 1230 p.m. today in the sanctuary. Music Sara Andon, flute |

Hiking - Offsite "Mark your calendar for an easy hike November 19th Saturday at 9AM. We will carpool from Church and drive to the parking lot just east of the walking bridge over La Cienega Blvd. The parking lot is located very close to the entrance to Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. The Stoneview Nature Center is a relatively new park near the west side of the walking bridge. The Center has many creative outdoor exhibits such as the Bee Hotel and a labyrinth. After we check that out we will head back to Kenneth Hahn to explore the Japanese Garden and more. Please RSVP hiking@uusm.org" |

Hiking Group We plan to continue exploring beach hikes. Tides are moderately low on the morning or September 8. This is an ideal time to hike along the Malibu beaches. We are planning to hike at Point Dumé. We will start on the beach, hike up and over the Point (good views) and down onto beaches on the other side, then hike along the beach. It may be cold or hot; dress for temperature change. Bright sun reflects off the water so sunscreen and hats are very important. Bring water and a snack. You should be able to climb about 5 flights of stairs and hike about 5 miles. Expect mostly packed, wet sand and some rocks. The tide will not be low enough for tidepool exploration. There is a fee for parking and restrooms near the parking area. Meet at the church at 9 am. |
