Leadership Training

For members and friends of UUSM who want to develop skills for leading.

Trainer: Rev. Kikanza Nuri-Robins

It’s not leadership if no one is following. And no one will follow if they don’t think you see
them or care about them. Great leadership is like playing jazz—you adapt your response to the
theme (your vision) to the people who are playing with you, and to your audience. In this
workshop series, you will learn to respond to the people you are leading by using your skills,
gifts and talents in new ways.
Each 90-minute session will focus on a different set of leadership tools. We will cover our
thinking styles, our temperaments and our listening attitudes. As a result, participants may feel
more ready and qualified to take on leadership in a variety of settings including UUCCSM.

Kikanza Nuri-Robins, MDiv, EdD

Kikanza Nuri-Robins is an organization development consultant who helps people and organizations that are in transition – or ought to be.  Her clients include schools, NPOs, government and faith-based organizations. She has been an advocate for justice, equity and inclusion for her entire career, serving mission-driven organizations across the country. 

Her focus is on sustaining healthy organization cultures by improving communication, developing effective leaders, and aligning corporate values with daily practice. She started her career thinking she would change the world.  Now she knows that she is most effective making a difference, wherever in the world she finds herself, one conversation at a time.

Kikanza is the author of many articles and six books, including: Cultural Proficiency and Fish Out of Water.  Kikanza was ordained by the Presbyterian Church USA, she has a Diploma In the Arts of Spiritual Direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary, and a Certificate in Unitarian Universalist Studies from Starr King School for Ministry.

She lives in Los Angeles where she serves on the Bio-Ethics Committee of the UCLA Medical Center and the boards of several social-service organizations.  She spends her discretionary time in her studio playing with color and textiles.
