Finding Your Place
Monthly Theme: Celebrating Blessings
Rev. Kikanza Nuri-Robins
We teach about the uniqueness of all people, and though we know that we have gifts differing from one another, we focus on our flaws and short comings. We apologize for who we are and how we are. We strive to be better, but we never acknowledge that we started out as good. If you believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every person, then you must find your place. Find the way and the place in the world, where you can be your best self. #yourbestself #thisisme #prideinself
Counting Blessings
Monthly Theme: Celebrating Blessings
Rev. Kikanza Nuri-Robins
I know a number of people who respond to queries about their well-being by saying, “I’m Blessed.” My response is to affirm the obvious and then ask, “Yes, and are you being a blessing?” It is important to acknowledge all of the good things in one’s life. It is also important TO BE one of the good things in the lives of others.
Queer Blessings: I Had a Bad Dream!
Monthly Theme: Celebrating Blessings
Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae
Our liberal congregations were among the first to fight for LGBTIAQ+ rights and they were in instrumental in securing those rights after decades of activism and community-building. Join us for our annual service honoring Pride Month. We will offer “I Had a Bad Dream!” by the late kweer scholartivist Ibrahim Farajajé. We will also commission our newly reformed Pastoral Associates — and the Annual Meeting will follow our worship service. We hope you will join us in the Pride March next week as well!
⇒ We’ll re-gather today in the Sanctuary at 12:00 pm for our 95th Annual Congregational Meeting!
Volunteer and Staff Celebration Sunday
Monthly Theme: Nurturing Beauty
Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae
Our is a shared ministry that is only possible with the generous gifts of time, talent, and resources from our many congregational leaders, members, friends, and staff. Join us as we celebrate our many volunteers and staff and explore what opportunities for volunteer service and leadership are emerging in this time of renewal and rebirth.
The Flaming Chalice
Monthly Theme: Nurturing Beauty
Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae
We open our worship services like most Unitarian Universalist congregations with the lighting of our flaming chalice. This beloved tradition has deep liberal religious roots with multireligious significance. Join us as we reflect upon this tradition and sacred stories of light in religious history.
Aging Beauty
Monthly Theme: Nurturing Beauty
Rev. Kikanza Nuri-Robins
As we age, we have more opportunity to let our inner beauty radiate outward. Surface beauty mellows or fades, and we are invited to refine or redefine our perceptions of beauty – and aging. What does “old” mean to you? What is the relationship of aging and beauty to your understanding of our UU principles of acceptance and spiritual growth?
Our Living Tradition
Monthly Theme: Nurturing Beauty
Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae
Our Unitarian Universalist tradition is alive in that it may evolve with the times through democratic processes. We follow a congregational polity which means we are a self-governing church. Our Bylaws Refresh Task Force has recently drafted proposed Bylaws to be considered for adoption. Come learn more about this work and the importance of democratic process to our movement.
Self-Compassion
Monthly Theme: Nurturing Beauty
Rev. Kikanza Nuri-Robins
If you loved yourself well, what would your life look like? What language would you use to describe yourself, to ask for what you want, to protect your boundaries? Who in your life mothered you the way you most wanted to be mothered? What would be different about your walk in the world if you treated yourself with that same love and compassion? This morning we will talk about compassionate love and why it is sometimes so hard to give to oneself.
Our Paradise
Monthly Theme: Awakening
Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae
Earth Day arrives and we are reminded the seas are rising and fires are burning in the only paradise we know. This special Earth Day service will celebrate Mother Earth, consider the threats facing our planet home, and remember our place in the interdependent web of all existence.
Easter, Passover and Ramadan
Monthly Theme: Awakening
Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae
Easter and Passover are honored in the midst of the holy month of Ramadan this year. Join us as we consider the religious meaning and syncretism of these important Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Pagan holy days.
