Youth Programs UPDATED 9/21/17 with info for the New Church Year ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming of Age for 8th Grade and up: provides opportunities for youth to learn who they are and where they are on their spiritual journey, bond with other teens, celebrate their gifts, learn about the church and how it works, and articulate their own personal beliefs within the context of our UU faith. The year culminates on Coming of Age Sunday on the 3rd Sunday in May, when the youth will present religious credo statements before the congregation in a worship service of their own design. Offered again Next Year 9th-12th Grade: Young Religious Unitarian Universalists (YRUU) empowers teens, with the guidance of adult advisors, to create their own vision and mission for their program. YRUU youth will explore what it means to be young and UU, how our UU principles inform how we live our lives, and what power young UU’s have to change the world. YRUU also takes part in social justice projects, organizes social gatherings, and will plan and lead a Sunday worship service for the congregation. YRUU meets during the 9:00 service only. Meets in Room 1 For more information about youth programs at UUSM, contact dre@uusm.org |

Youth RE
This Sunday, we hope to see you as we build a beloved community in and through UUSM!
Join us in the Sanctuary for a Story, then we will head out to the Cottage.
As we do each week, we'll collect food for Westside Food Bank so if you can bring something from your pantry to contribute, that'd be great! In the Cottage: We'll be making name stones for opening and closing Cottage rituals. We'll use those stones in walking a labyrinth and setting intentions for a great new week. Of course, we'll have snack because....well, snack. And we'll talk about the rituals we have at home and at UUSM. You'll get to take home a sheet that shares all what we did in the cottage, how you might explore the topic further by talking about it, and you'll get some family rituals you might try at home! After service, kids are invited to help prepare Lunches for Bunches, our weekly service action that feeds our homeless neighbors who access Annenberg Access Center for showers, laundry, mental health and substance abuse support, employment services, and more. |

What do you see as the future of Youth Religious Education? Please come to a meeting with Rev. Youth Service Join YRUU, the high school group, on March 14 as we perform our annual service for children and for every grownup’s inner child. We’ll explore life through the works of Dr. Seuss, using his stories, drawings, interpretation and song. You say you’ve never been to a YRUU service? “If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good,” said Dr. Seuss. |

Youth, Time and Aging In the mass media - in magazines, books, movies, television, etc. - we endlessly celebrate youth in our society. On the other hand, the poet Marge Piercy observes, My idea of hell is to be young again. What on earth did she have in mind? Lex is Minister Emeritus at the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara, where he earlier served for 19 years. Among other ministries, he also once served our church as Interim Minister. |
