"Self-Compassion" - UUSM Sunday Service - May 1, 2022
Rev. Kikanza Nuri-Robins, preaching
Sue Bickford, worship associate

If you loved yourself well, what would your life look like?  What language would you use to describe yourself, to ask for what you want, to protect your boundaries?  Who in your life mothered you the way you most wanted to be mothered?  What would be different about your walk in the world if you treated yourself with that same love and compassion?  This morning we will talk about compassionate love and why it is sometimes so hard to give to oneself

"Showcase Sunday" - presented by the Nominating and Membership Committees

Please join us on Showcase Sunday!

On a Showcase Sunday, every committee sets up a table and members roam the room. This allows every committee, every member, and each friend of the church, opportunities to find each other and to ask and answer questions directly. It completely removes the mystery of how to get involved...for both longtime and new members and it gives the committees a chance to recruit or work on a time-limited project.

"Signals" Jazz Band

The band “Signals” was formed in the fall of 2009 by pianist Bryan McAllister, inspired by contemporary jazz pioneers such as The Bad Plus, E.S.T, and Kneebody. This young LA-based jazz quartet explores new territory through deeply meditative compositions and a wide use of textures and sounds. Signals will be presenting an interactive, thought-provoking show for all ages and musical tastes. You can hear them at http://www.myspace.com/signalsjazz. Suggested donation is $15 at the door.

"Spiritual Armor" (Online Service)

The wisdom scriptures hold that faith can be worn as spiritual armor in difficult circumstances.  With growing threats of domestic terrorism, fascism, and white supremacy in our culture, how can our liberal religious faith equip us to be successful in the struggle for justice and beloved community?  We will also honor the Hindu holiday Mahashivaratri this week, so be sure to join us for worship!

"Spiritual Report Cards" - UUSM Sunday Service - January 2, 2022
Michael Eselun, preaching
Charles Haskell, worship associate

How many of us live our lives as if there will be a report card at the end of the term? What would constitute an “A” grade in your book, spiritually speaking? And does it matter? We welcome back oncology chaplain and popular guest speaker, Michael Eselun, who will explore these questions.

Michael Eselun serves as the chaplain for the Simms-Mann/UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology. Two-time TED-X speaker, Michael speaks extensively to healthcare professionals, patient populations, and faith communities across the country. He has also worked as an activist/educator addressing anti-LGBTQ bias in the larger community for over 30 years. In recognition of having lived a meaning-driven life, Michael was inducted into the UCLA-Semel Institute Eudaimonia Society. His website is www.michaeleselun.com
