Art Wall Opening Reception - Bonnie Lambert

We are pleased to welcome back Southern California visual artist Bonnie Lambert. Artist Opening Reception: Sunday, March 1st, 2015, 12 Noon to 1:30pm, UU Santa Monica, Forbes Hall. The show will run through Sunday, March 29th and is open to the public on Sundays from 9am – 1pm and on weekdays by appointment.

Artist Bonnie Lambert presents California Street Scenes, a solo show of her Expressionist style, oil paintings. Inspired by the aurora borealis sky-dances of her Wisconsin childhood, Lambert uses similar vibrant and contrasting colors to create engaging scenes from around the Los Angeles area: Hollywood, Long Beach, Pasadena, South Central, Burbank, and many other So. Cal locales.

Lambert first moved to Los Angeles in 1989, after almost two decades of professional acting; it was here that she transitioned into visual arts. Lambert took classes at the Art Center School of Design in Pasadena and studied with artists such as David Limrite, Ray Turner and Mark Strickland. Later, Bonnie took classes with museum-collected Chicana artist Margaret Garcia, who mentored Lambert and provided space for a solo show at the Garcia Studio.

Concerning her style, Lambert mentions: “The colossal scale of this city with its fluid light, contrasting landscapes, and passionate mix of cultures moved me to become a visual artist…I strive to capture an essence of Southern California -- light, earth and people -- mirrored by this transcendent city.” Lambert has shown her work in over two dozen local exhibitions and galleries, including many solo shows. UU Santa Monica is proud to have her return to the Art Wall at the church for March, 2015.

In this special intergenerational service we will celebrate the joy our animal companions bring to our lives and affirm our 7th Principle, "respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part." Well-behaved pets accustomed to sharing space with other animals and many new people, as well as animal companions comfortable in cages, are welcome to attend worship that morning. You can also bring a photo or other memento of your animal, or of a pet who has passed away.

Camp deBeneville Pines Weekend

Each year, UUCCSM members and friends flock to Camp deBenneville Pines, an idyllic rustic paradise two hours east of Santa Monica (if you leave at the right time on Friday) for a weekend of reveling in nature, ping pong tournaments, dam building, s'mores, tie-dying and sing-along versions of every ‘60s song you know (or don’t).

You are invited to join us! Singles, couples and families young and old enjoy clean mountain air, lots of activities, great camp food and fellowship.  Rustic heated cabins are clean and comfortable, with indoor plumbing and hot showers, for "roughing it, gently".

Please fill out the attached registration form or contact Jacki Weber to receive one. You can pay online at uusm.org under “make a donation.”

Prices start at $145/person for adults, $85/person for kids and $110 for teens, and that includes all food and activities for the weekend!

This year we are also offering a limited number of financial aid "camperships" for those who need it.  If that's your situation, your camp fee is just half-price (down to a slight $73 per adult), and FREE for kids/teens.  Or alternately, if you're flush with cash, you could contribute to the campership pot, which'd help even more campers make it to deBenneville in September.  A full camp is a happy camp and we aim to be very happy.

Contact Jacki Weber for more information.
