An Equal-Access Faith

Nearly everyone faces the challenge of chronic illness or disability at some point in life. What can we do as a community to be as welcoming and accessible as we can be? The Rev. Dr. Devorah Greenstein, Accessibility Program Associate with the Unitarian Universalist Association, will be visiting our service this Sunday. She will be running a trial for a new assistive listening device.

An Introduction to Vedanta

Our guest, a monk with the Vedanta Society of Los Angeles, will explain the origins of Vedanta – a Hindu faith tradition that Unitarians helped to establish in the West.

An Isherwood Life

Writer Christopher Isherwood exemplified many of the qualities of a good life. He was honest, intelligent, and talented. He was also very spiritual. Our service will add to the many celebrations of his centenary this year and explore Isherwood?s life in all its fullness and originality. Music: Victor Lawrence, cello

An Open Letter to President Donald Trump
We're standing before a powerful moment in history for this country.  But when we stop to understand the power and responsibility we have as a nation for leadership of the global community, it is not too far reaching to say this is a powerful moment for the future of the species - and the planet.  We have so many tools at our disposal but it seems like the only one we've been picking up is a hammer.  And everything around us is getting nailed.  In this land where the binary option has been put in our face, it's time for haters to hate and leaders to lead.  We just have to decide to which group we will be true.
An Outer Life

As our congregation continues to explore who we are and what we are building together, we need to balance self-reflection with outreach. Our Faith in Action Issues Election takes place after the second service today. Let's look outward together.

An Unexpected Break

It was only a broken hand, and I had to wear the cast for only a month. Yet my brief foray into disability taught me something, which I will share with you.

An Unrepentant Liberal

When Unitarian minister A. Powell Davies pronounced himself an unrepentant liberal in 1946, he was speaking of the need for a progressive faith to save the world. Over 50 years later, his words?and our Unitarian Universalist faith?still ring true.

And Heaven and Nature Sing

In our Christmas Eve services at 6pm and 8pm, we will share the joyful story of Christmas in lessons, carols, and beautiful music from our adult choir. Please join us for a festive reception after both services. 100% of the Christmas Eve offering will go to OPCC (Ocean Park Community Center) to provide housing and services to low-income youth and families on the Westside.

If you would like to be a reader at a Christmas Eve service, please contact Rev. Rebecca at minister@uusm.org.

And Now We Are Six

What were you born to do? Who have you come here to be? And have you gone through that becoming? Because some people haven't. Some people never wind up as the person they were meant to be... even if they spend a lifetime wanting that becoming to take hold of them. Some people remain too focused on what it's like to be the prey rather than what it's like to be the prayer. This is a service for those who feel called to something great and who go after it, despite the danger.
