Service Notes
Today, 60% of our non-pledge offering will go to the Unitarian Universalist Association. In our covenant as member congregations of the UUA, it is written that we pledge one another our mutual trust and support. This church’s support for the UUA through this offering, as well as through contributing 89% of our Fair Share contribution in our 2015-16 budget, enables us to embody our pledge of trust and support. Among many other expressions of our faith in the world, the UUA supports Standing on the Side of Love, the Our Whole Lives sexuality education curricula, and Tapestry of Faith religious education resources. This year’s UUA General Assembly is June 22-26 in Columbus, Ohio. Are you interested in attending and representing our congregation as a delegate at the largest annual gathering of UUs in the world? Please contact the church office for more information at office@uusm.org.

Of Memory and Hope The willingness to die for one's country and its values challenges all of us to ask what is important enough to risk our lives for. On this Veterans' Day weekend, our guest minister will offer some reflections on what it means for the church to be a community of memory and hope. The observance for Veterans Day will include a chalice lighting reflection by John Medlin, Bob Tull and Milton Holmen. |

OFF-SITE - Los Angeles March for Science Rally and Science Expo
Time again to take to the streets to support one of the most important causes of our time! Join LA-area UUs and friends to attend the 2018 March for Science and Science Expo. With gratitude for the planet that have given us life, and a responsibility to future generations and the ecosystem that all-known life depends upon, we must continue to demand responsible science policy!
We will rally at 7th & Grand and walk together to Pershing Square. And this time, we will also designate a second rallying point near City Hall, where can meet up again after the inevitable scattering in the crowds
Science Must Not Be Silenced.
WE ARE AT A CRUCIAL POINT IN TIME, ONE THAT WILL DETERMINE WHAT OUR SOCIETY - WHAT OUR PLANET - WILL LOOK LIKE OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT GENERATION.
From budget cuts, to the purging of entire departments, to the intentional pushing of 'alternative facts', public science has come under fire like never before, even as we are faced with unprecedented environmental catastrophe.
The LA Alliance for Science is working to reverse this trend, by bringing together those from within the scientific community, as well as the general public, and amplifying their voices. Together, we can focus on scientific issues effecting the Los Angeles area, as well as those on a national and global level.
