My Trip to the Holy Land Michael Eselun, a member of our congregation and a guest speaker here on several occasions, will share his reflections upon his recent trip to Jerusalem with a friend facing a grave medical crisis -- both the external journey to Jerusalem and the internal journey through fear and unanswerable questions. |

Mystery Friends Program 2018 MYSTERY FRIENDS PROGRAM We will begin a "Mystery Friends" Program starting Sunday, January 21st, 2018. This is a fun program where children ages 3-13 and adults in the UUSM community volunteer to be secretly paired; the child and adult trade letters and small gifts for six weeks as the child tries to guess the identity of the adult. There is a reason to all of this madness: a party on February 25, 2018 when the pairs meet and have lunch together. It is a great way for the kids to get to know another wonderful UU adult and vice versa! Please don’t sign up if you will be unable to make the party on February 25th. It is so disappointing not to be able to meet your mystery friend at the party! Starting January 21st, You will find a pair of bags for you and your friend in Forbes Hall. The bag that has the child’s name AND ADULT printed on it is for the child to put in notes and other items for the adult friend. The bag with just the child’s name is for the adult to put items/notes for them. (Adults, make sure your friend is not looking). Keep giving hints, notes and little gifts each week through Sunday February the 25th when the secret friends meet. We will photograph the friends and make a memento for each pair. Please limit items to either homemade items, things you treasure from your home, or those that can be purchased at the 99 cent store. The more notes the better. In your notes, do not reveal or sign your name. You could tell your child/adult a little about yourself. The notes should be similar to those that pen pals would write. I will keep a basket of items that fit hobbies and likes available in my office to purchase for $1 each in case you forget. If you know you are going to miss Sundays, you can come in during the week and if you are going to be away on a trip, I can even put your items in for you. Adults and children wishing to participate are asked to submit their name and other info to my email or sign up at the RE table no later than January 18th so that I can get everyone matched up and contact all participants. |

Myths and Realities of True Love
Falling in love is the euphoric moment when we discover someone with the unique combination of what you've always wanted and needed: attention, acceptance, appeciation, affection, allowance - what David Richo calls 'the 5 A's of Love'. And, somehow, you muster the courage to go all in. You find - or borrow - enough to lower the powerful shield of our ego, and rejoice and make promises that bind you in that reunion with connection. But there are downsides as well. As he has just announced his engagement, this is Rev. Greg's chance to talk about the promises and pitfalls of True Love.
