Light the Night with AAHS Come “Light the Night” with AAHS — Join fellow members of AAHS (Agnostics, Atheists, Humanists & Secularists) and other UUs who are teaming up as part of a national super-team to raise $1 million dollars for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during their annual “Light the Night” campaign. On the evening of October 6 “Light the Night” walkers will leave from Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood on an easy two-mile stroll to raise awareness and donations for the L&LS. You are invited to join our local team, “Humanists & Freethinkers of Los Angeles;” we are part of the Foundation Beyond Belief super-team working with a generous philanthropist who has offered to match up to $500,000 in a dollar-for-dollar matching grant. This will be a fun and “light” event and an opportunity “practice what we preach” beyond the walls of UUCCSM. To join our team or to support us with a donation, just go to: http://pages.lightthenight.org/los/UCLA12/HumanistsFreethinkersofLosAngeles. For more information, contact: Ian Dodd. |

Light Which Interrupts Our Routine Our guest speaker Jim Grant writes, "Both Hanukkah and Christmas are about light, as is the Winter Solstice. Light makes vision possible. Both Hanukkah and Christmas are also about vision; vision which goes beyond either the miracle of oil for eight days or Santa Claus." Jim Grant is a former American Baptist minister, now a Unitarian Universalist, serving as Consulting Minister to the UU Fellowship of Laguna Beach. Music Peter Gallway, singer-songwriter |

Liminal Space (Online Service) When you are finished with where you are, and not yet where you are going, and not entirely clear about why you are where you are, you are in Liminal Space. Resting in the arms of ambiguity might become a spiritual practice for you. Join us as we consider how we might take greater advantage of the grey areas in our lives. The Rev. Dr. Kikanza Nuri-Robins is a consultant to people and organizations in transition. She works with non-profits and faith-based organizations around the country helping them address issues of leadership, communication and cultural competence. Lineage and Life Father's Day reminds us that our human lineage is precious and unique, yet also connects us to creation itself. Honoring our human bonds inevitably leads us to a broader sense of relatedness and responsibility for all life. |

Link to Summer 2021 GLAM Sunday Services
On Sundays during the months of July and August this year, we will be participating in The Greater LA UU Ministry's (GLAM) Virtual SUUmmer Road Trip, worshipping with UU congregations across Greater Los Angeles. These services will occur at 10:30 am (please note the new time) via Zoom.
The Zoom link, which will be the same every week, is:
Following each service, we will gather with all of the other UUs present for a common Zoom coffee hour with breakout rooms that will allow us to get to know our neighbors better. (There will be no separate UUSM coffee hour.)
Our GLAM Virtual SUUmmer Road Trip will not only give our staff and worship leaders a much needed break, but it will also allow us to learn from our sibling congregations and to forge relationships across our congregations.
We plan to return to our sanctuary on Sunday, September 5th.
