Introduction to SoulCollage®: An Intuitive Artmaking Process

Introduction to SoulCollage®: An Intuitive Artmaking Process

SoulCollage® is a collage art endeavor founded by art therapist Seena B. Frost, MA, MDiv, in which the participants create a personal deck of cards. The method of creating cards develops one’s creativity, encourages self-discovery, and provides personal guidance. Using the cards can help access those inner and outer resources in difficult times, access the sacred, strengthen our awareness of our dynamic lives, make decisions mindfully, and help resolve personal or interpersonal conflicts. Community is also very important to the process as we explore our group’s imagery together. People who have done this program before, claim that the creation and usage of these self-crafted cards is transformative. This process is being shared across the world, in many languages, and enjoyed by people of all ages, genders, and cultures. So bring your curiosity, your wonder, your wisdom, your imagination and a beginner’s mind to this introductory workshop.

This workshop is led by Adrienne Sumpter, who is a trained facilitator for SoulCollage®.  It is okay to just attend only one workshop.

Please note that there is a 10-person maximum for groups held in the cottage. All participants need to be fully vaccinated, and people need to stay masked. Please sign up ahead of time: AdultRE@uusm.org

Investment of Church's Liquid Assets

Approved by the Investment Committee 4-15-95

Investment Instruments

The Church’s liquid assets shall be invested in instruments with no risk of capital loss (Treasury bills or government-insured certificates of deposit) until an income stream equal to any projected operating budget shortfall has been attained. Certificates of deposit shall be purchased through brokerage houses rather than directly from banks, to make accessible the higher interest rates on maturities as long as five years while maintaining liquidity (no interest penalty for early withdrawal).

When the Church’s liquid assets exceed the amount necessary to meet the above criterion, other classes of investment (e.g., stock funds intended to be held for relatively long periods) may be considered for the excess.

(Approved by Investment Committee April 26, 1996)

Investment Maturities

The Church’s endowments can be invested in long-term instruments, because the principal thereof should never be invaded.

If the emergency [and minister’s equity-sharing] reserves are invested in instruments readily convertible to cash (albeit with some interest penalty), the maturities can again be long because of the low probability of an eventuality requiring such conversion.

Of the savings, we try to maintain $25,000 - 30,000 in a money market account, immediately available via electronic transfer or by check, as a cushion for the primary and secondary checking accounts. Furthermore, some modest segment of the savings should always be invested short-term because of uncertainty as to what may come up unexpectedly.

Optimum investment strategy for the remainder of the savings and any other specified reserves depends on the anticipated needs for those resources. When no major needs are envisioned in the short term, then these resources can be invested with relatively long maturities because the short-term investments (previous paragraph) represent an alternative cover for any operating shortfall. When a near-term need is envisioned, however, the maturities must be selected to correspond.

Iris Klein Art Reception
Irreverent or Irrelevant?

Ever since a new member told us that she discovered Unitarian Universalism from the jokes on A Prairie Home Companion, I have been asking myself what it means that others - and we ourselves - laugh at our idiosyncrasies. Are we not being taken seriously enough?

Is there some sort of coffee or social hour after the service, where I can meet people and ask questions?

Yes! There is a coffee/social period after each service, in Forbes Hall at the back of the church. All members, friends and visitors are welcome - please come enjoy our hospitality, chat with our members and introduce yourself. You'll also find official greeters there, and several volunteers wearing "Ask Me" buttons, who can answer all your questions about our church.

Is there someone I can talk to when I get there?
There are Greeters outside our front door before each Sunday service, and in Forbes Hall or welcome table in the patio after the service, who will be glad to chat, show you where to go and answer your questions. Of course, the rest of us are quite friendly too — so please feel free to introduce yourself to your neighbors in the pews, and to others before and after the service. We’d love to meet you!
