"Footprints" - UUSM Sunday Service - January 23, 2022

Rev. Kikanza Nuri-Robins, preaching
Cassie Winters, worship associate

For most of our lives we focus on our futures: What are our goals? What is next? There is a point, however, when we might begin to think about our legacy. What is the body of work for which you will be remembered? What are your footprints? And where will people find them?

"The 8th UU Principle" - UUSM Sunday Service - January 16, 2022

Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae, preaching
Sue Bickford, worship associate

We hold our seven Unitarian Universalist Principles — from affirming the inherent worth and dignity of every person to respect for interdependent web of life — as strong moral guides. An 8th Principle has been proposed and adopted by many congregations that affirms the work of anti-racism and anti-oppression as central to our journey towards spiritual wholeness. Come learn more about the proposed 8th Principle as we honor Martin Luther King, Jr., Day this Sunday.

Proposed: “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.” [source: 8thprinciple.org

Writing For Discernment with Bettye Barclay - Zoom/Online

Writing For Discernment

Participants will be invited to explore through writing their responses to questions based on the ministry

theme of the month. It will offer opportunities for self-discovery, being witnessed by others,
and for spiritual discernment.
Ideas and questions will be sent prior to each meeting that will serve as
impetus for writing that will be read during the meeting. We will also do some brief writing
from prompts during the meeting each month. There will be time to share your
writings and people will be able to share what was most meaningful for them
from the meeting. It is based very much on the format of a chalice circle, but the sharing is
done by reading what has been written.

Bettye Barclay worked for many years as a psychotherapist and led a variety of

workshops including career choice, stress management, journal writing, and meditation.

How many of us live our lives as if there will be a report card at the end of the term? What would constitute an “A” grade in your book, spiritually speaking? And does it matter? We welcome back oncology chaplain and popular guest speaker, Michael Eselun, who will explore these questions.

Introduction to SoulCollage®: An Intuitive Artmaking Process

Introduction to SoulCollage®: An Intuitive Artmaking Process
SoulCollage® is a collage art endeavor founded by art therapist Seena B. Frost, MA, MDiv, in which the participants create a personal deck of cards. The method of creating cards develops one’s creativity, encourages self-discovery, and provides personal guidance. Using the cards can help access those inner and outer resources in difficult times, access the sacred, strengthen our awareness of our dynamic lives, make decisions mindfully, and help resolve personal or interpersonal conflicts. Community is also very important to the process as we explore our group’s imagery together. People who have done this program before, claim that the creation and usage of these self-crafted cards is transformative. This process is being shared across the world, in many languages, and enjoyed by people of all ages, genders, and cultures. So bring your curiosity, your wonder, your wisdom, your imagination and a beginner’s mind to this introductory workshop.
This workshop is led by Adrienne Sumpter, who is a trained facilitator for SoulCollage®. We will meet on two Saturdays in the cottage: January 15 1-4PM and February 12, 1PM – 4PM. It is okay to just attend only one workshop.
Please note that there is a 10-person maximum for groups held in the cottage. All participants need to be fully vaccinated, and people need to stay masked. Please sign up ahead of time.

ONE SERVICE AT 10:30 am online only

Our Unitarian Universalist tradition embraces religious wisdom from many sources. Although the Hebrew and Christian sacred texts have been at the foundation of our tradition, other texts such as the Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism have also played an important role in shaping our liberal tradition. Come join us and learn more about the Hindu tradition and this beautiful sacred text this Sunday!
