Town Hall Meeting: Music Program
Come share your thoughts about our music program. The Search Committee for our new Music Director is busy narrowing the field of candidates and will be meeting with Rev. Bijur to make their final selection later this month. Interviews will then begin for a permanent pianist/organist and a choir section leader. We welcome your input as we move into a new season of worship and music. Sponsored by the Director of Music Search Committee and the Music Committee. Sanctuary, c/o Rob Briner and Rima Snyder.

Step Up on Second Artists

At Step Up on Second, art heals. Member- artists paint vibrant landscapes with broad, colorful strokes. Writers create deeply stirring poetry. One member composes operas, his eloquent hands passionately conducting the next few new phrases before transcribing it all on paper. As one member’s symptoms of depression take hold, she paints a serene creek with overarching trees and she says she feels better. The paintings, music, and poems of Step Up's member-artists tell the true story of the ups and downs of their personal journey. “Do you know what the good thing about art is?” said one Step Up member- artist. “It helps me learn to be alone but not lonely.” The Creative Arts Therapy program at Step Up on Second helps member- artists channel thoughts and emotions, guides self-expression and discovery, and fosters progress towards recovery from mental illness. Please visit www.stepuponsecond. org and follow Step Up on Second on Facebook and Twitter.
Crafty Afternoon
Another hot summer Saturday afternoon. Boredom is setting in. You’ve done Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. The beach is too crowded and the Coast Highway traffic is impossible. Come to church! We’re going to spend the afternoon working with clay, making dolls, knitting, sewing, making great structures from wood, creating art from junk, and more. There will be people to teach you how to do it and you can go home with something wonderful. Everyone from toddlers to teenagers to our eldest members is invited to join the fun from 1 to 5 p.m.

De Benneville All-Church Weekend
(RE)CREATE | (RE)JUVENATE | (RE)CONNECT WITH NATURE AT CAMP DEBENNEVILLE PINES (Sept. 21-23, 2012)
Each year, UUCCSM members and friends flock to Camp deBenneville Pines, an idyllic rustic paradise two hours east of Santa Monica (if you leave at the right time on Friday) for a weekend of reveling in nature, ping pong tournaments, dam building, s'mores, tie-dying and sing-along versions of every ‘60s song you know (or don’t).
You are invited to join us! Singles, couples and families young and old enjoy clean mountain air, lots of activities, great camp food and fellowship. Rustic heated cabins are clean and comfortable, with indoor plumbing and hot showers, for "roughing it, gently".
Sign-ups are currently being taken at www.tinyurl.com/
Also this year, we’re offering a limited number of financial aid "camperships" for those who need it. If that's your situation, your camp fee is just half-price (down to a slight $73 per adult), and FREE for kids/teens. Or alternately, if you're flush with cash, you could contribute to the campership pot, which'd help even more campers make it to deBenneville in September. A full camp is a happy camp and we aim to be very happy.
