*Gathering Hymn ‘Tis a gift to be simple, ‘tis a gift to be free
‘Tis a gift to come down where we ought to be
And when we find ourselves in the place just right
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained,
to bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed
To turn, turn will be our delight
‘Till by turning, turning we come ‘round right.
Prelude Consolation, Op. 30, No. 3 Felix Mendelssohn

*Covenant Love is the doctrine of this church.
The quest for truth is its sacrament,
And service is its prayer.
To dwell together in peace,
To seek knowledge in freedom,
To serve humankind in fellowship,
Thus do we covenant with each other.
*Hymn of Praise From all that dwell below the skies

Musical Response You’ve Got a Friend Carole King
When you're down and troubled,
And you need some love and care,
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of me,
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night.
If the sky above you grows dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind begins to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
Soon you'll hear me knocking at your door
Now, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
When people can be so cold?
They'll hurt you, yes, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them,
Oh, but don't you let them
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there
You've got a friend
*Please stand in body or in spirit

Silvio Nardoni is a former affiliate minister of this congregation. He continues to practice law in
Glendale and counts that as part of his ministry. He lives in Silver Lake with his wife, Wanda, and an
assortment of feathered and furry friends. His hobbies include watching movies and gardening, where
he on occasion can see grasshoppers at play.
Today, 60% of our non-pledge offering will go to the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, a
