Service Notes

Today 40% of our non-pledge offering will go to Unitarian Universalist Service Committee,
(UUSC), to advance human rights and social justice in the United States and around the world. The
work of the UU Service Committee is built on the conviction that all people are entitled to basic
human rights, which transcend divisions of class, race, nationality, sexual orientation, ethnicity,
religion, and gender. We envision a world free from oppression and injustice, where all can realize
their full human rights.

Maggie Potthoff is a candidate for the Unitarian Universalist community ministry, and is interested
in working at the intersection of faith and public life. She and her husband moved to Los Angeles last
year after her graduation from the University of Chicago's dual master's program in divinity and public
policy. She currently works as a policy analyst at the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority and
serves on the board of our new UU regional justice group, JUUstice-LA. As a fairly recent midwest
transplant, she is energized by all that she's learned about justice-making, community-building, and
farmers markets in her short time in the LA area. She is grateful to be with you at UUSM today.
