The First Resurrection

While Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, the Gospels tell of an earlier event which contains helpful images for religious liberals.

The Flaming Chalice

We open our worship services like most Unitarian Universalist congregations with the lighting of our flaming chalice. This beloved tradition has deep liberal religious roots with multireligious significance. Join us as we reflect upon this tradition and sacred stories of light in religious history.
The Garden of Love

The God With No Stomach: A Hindu's Walk in the Brahmo Faith

In the 1820s, reform-minded Hindus in the eastern province of Bengal looked to the West and found in the Unitarian Church a model of congregational worship and discourse that was unknown in Hindu worship at the time. The result was the emergence of not only the youngest of India's recognized religions, Brahmo Dharma, but also a sociopolitical climate that nurtured nationalism and the demand for independence from British rule. Our speaker was born and raised a Hindu in post-colonial Bengal. She now produces documentary films about little-known events that have shaped the lives of Americans. Her films include the 2007 documentary, "Sisters of Selma." http//home.earthlink.net/~jayasrihart/.

Church member and well-received speaker, Michael Eselun is a hospital chaplain at UCLA Medical Center. He will share reflections on how we create meaning from our life experience. Is there such a thing as inherent meaning or is it all manufactured and does it matter?

The Great Commandment

Jesus quotes two of the Jewish commandments as the greatest of all that we should love God, love our neighbors, and love ourselves. When he also commands that we should love even our enemies he presents a challenge that we must treat every particle of the universe as a container for the ultimate values we hold most dear.
